When our clients in Ontario wanted to completely modernize their compartmentalized living space, they faced a significant structural hurdle. The layout they desired required the removal of multiple load-bearing walls that were holding up the second floor of the home. This project required more than just aesthetic updates; it demanded rigorous engineering and structural precision.

We began by collaborating with our structural engineers to design a massive recessed steel I-beam to carry the load of the upper floor. By using a flush-beam design, we eliminated any awkward ceiling drop-downs, creating a perfectly seamless, expansive ceiling across the new open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area. The kitchen was entirely redesigned with custom flat-panel wood cabinetry, luxury white quartz countertops, and a massive central island that now serves as the heart of the home.

Simultaneously, we transformed the primary ensuite into a five-star spa retreat. We installed a curbless walk-in shower with large-format porcelain tiles, a sleek freestanding tub, and elegant matte black fixtures. The entire home was updated with new wide-plank hardwood flooring, and energy-efficient lighting, resulting in a breathtakingly modern, structurally secure, and highly functional living environment that exceeded all client expectations.
